FAQ
What determines the price of a whisky cask?
The price of a whisky cask is a component of several variables. The distillery, type of whisky, age, vintage, type of wood used for aging, alcohol content, amount of whisky in the barrel, or the flavour and aroma profile of the whisky itself are just some of the factors considered when pricing. It is equally important to determine the current location of the cask. The more data a potential buyer collects, the more informed their decision to buy will be.
Can I see my cask live?
It all depends on the owner of the warehouse where the vessel is located. Most warehouses do not allow visitors, even if they are the owner of the cask. Of course, there are exceptions to this rule and in some cases Lis Casks Ltd can help to organise such an event.
Can I order a sample of whisky from my own barrel?
Most warehouses in Scotland will offer the option of taking a small sample from the barrels for analysis purposes. However, it should be noted that this process can take several weeks and will incur a fee according to the warehouse’s list price, which is the obligation of the customer.
Can we buy a whisky cask as a group?
Yes. A group of people can purchase their own cask of whisky by forming a so-called “syndicate”. The agreement specifies the percentage of ownership each buyer has in the cask and selects a person responsible for managing the cask (SPOC). This person will have the final say in all matters concerning the purchase.
